Peaking Lights

The Empty Bottle, Heaven Gallery, and the Museum of Contemporary Art host this year’s Adventures in Modern Music festival, once again presented by the Bottle and British music magazine the Wire. The fest runs five days (Wed 9/28-Sun 10/2) with one show each night, and as usual most of the lineups are willfully, even bizarrely eclectic: among the acts scheduled to appear are Brooklyn black-metal transcendentalists Liturgy, German glitch pioneer Oval, ambient folk artist Grouper, not-quite-chillwave Houses spin-off Dawn Golden & Rosy Cross, synth mastermind Oneohtrix Point Never, local riff masters Pelican, and trippy minimalist-dub duo Peaking Lights. The Bottle shows (Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday) start at 9 PM, and admission is $15 to each. Friday’s MCA concert starts at 7:30 PM with a viewing of “collected visions from Deep Magic,” the audiovisual collage project of Sun Araw‘s Alex Gray, and costs $20. Saturday’s Heaven Gallery gig (which features a performance by Sun Araw) begins at 10 PM with a screening of film work by Olivia Wyatt; a donation is requested for admission.
