Love noise but not the dank, claustrophobic basements that often host noise shows? Concepts in Noise, a brand-new series from Chicago collective Music for Downers and West Loop gallery Jacket Contemporary, hosts those sounds among white walls and hardwood floors. The monthly performances are also meant to complement the current exhibit at the gallery. Concepts in Noise debuts Friday, October 23 in conjunction with Matt Rutt and Sylvie Hayes-Wallace’s found-object installation, “I Want Something Beautiful.” The musicians on the bill are locals Anthony Janas, Nick Dellacroce of Bongripper (performing as Bottomed), and Yyu; the show runs from 6 to 9 PM.

A few months back, Gossip Wolf heard the sad news that Milwaukee label Latest Flame—which since 2002 has released LPs from a slew of Chicago bands, including the Dials, the Gunshy, and the reunited Troubled Hubble—was closing up shop. Label head Dan Hanke has booked a final bash at Milwaukee’s Club Garibaldi on Friday, October 23 and Saturday, October 24; more than a dozen bands from his roster will perform, among them the Gunshy and Troubled Hubble.

For years Gossip Wolf has bragged about being hip to Wax Idols front woman Hether Fortune back when she was a local yokel, drumming for Bare Wires and playing Sunday-night open-mike sets at Gallery Cabaret. Last week, LA’s empress of gothic art-pop dropped the new LP American Tragic, and on Tuesday, October 27, she headlines the Empty Bottle.

This wolf first heard ethereal Chicago pop singer-producer Cole M. Johnson via a Bandcamp single in April. On Monday he returned with the charming EP Departure, also on Bandcamp.
