Last Friday former Revolting Cocks and Ministry member Chris Connelly started recording a new album with omnipresent metal producer Sanford Parker—who’s also his bandmate in the High Confessions—at Engine Studios. This Wolf hears that Connelly wants to make more of a “rock” record to follow up last year’s How This Ends, and Parker has assembled a team of local hard hitters for the sessions: Dallas Thomas (the Swan King) on guitar, Noah Leger (Head of Skulls!) on drums, and Will Lindsay (Wolves in the Throne Room, Indian) on bass.
Gossip Wolf spotted Josh Young, aka J2K, queued up outside Big Star last week before he took off for a Flosstradamus set at the Converse Block Party in Melbourne, Australia. The Flosstraduo is still busy, even though Curt Cameruci (aka DJ Autobot) moved to Brooklyn last fall—sellout! In fact, they’re working on some tracks for Mic Terror. Young has also been making some beats for his actual big sis, Kid Sister, and he said he’d wrapped up recording two songs with with local MC Psalm One just before his taco run.
Alex White’s hustle has paid off: the White Mystery front lady has left her post as the marketing manager for Busy Beaver Button Co. to do music full-time. Congrats on living the dream! (Denise Gibson, art director for the defunct Venus Zine, is taking over.) White Mystery headed east on Tuesday for a short tour, but the duo will return to welcome summer with sets at the Do-Division Street Fest and Taste of Chicago.
Guitarist Brian Harper recently left Royal Pines to concentrate on his other project, Notary. Royal Pines front man Joe Patt tells Gossip Wolf that the Pines still intend to bring their dark, psych-country jams to the people, and on Thu 5/19 at Pancho’s they’ll play their third show since releasing Come Forth late last year. Patt adds that original drummer Todd Pannent—who left in 2006 to manage merchandise for traveling Broadway musicals—will rejoin the band on lead guitar for the occasion. —Jessica Hopper and J.R.
