In June the Reader‘s Luca Cimarusti reported that local thrash trio Oozing Wound—who sound like an excellent Dumpster stew of Obituary and Motorhead, and whose lineup includes members of Gossip Wolf faves Bad Drugs, Unmanned Ship, and Zath—had signed to venerable Chicago indie label Thrill Jockey. Now their first album, Retrash, is available for preorder on CD and LP, including a tasty deluxe mail-order edition limited to 200 copies, pressed on virgin vinyl with intense silk-screened wraparound artwork. Retrash drops on Tue 10/15, by which time your preorder should be waiting in your mailbox like a chestburster inside John Hurt. Oozing Wound plays the Empty Bottle on Thu 10/24 with Toupee, Running, and labelmates the Body before splitting for an east-coast tour.
In the mood to count some seapunks, but not sure where to go now that festival season is over? Well, this wolf knows just the thing—on Fri 10/11 at 10 PM, Teen Witch Fan Club is throwing an Area 69 party at Exit! The night’s hosts include Molly Soda, Claire Van Eijk, and Yoko Homo, and among the bevy of DJs spinning are Juketastrophe, How to Dress Well, and the evening’s namesake, Teen Witch, aka Zain Curtis. The flyer also promises a “special surprise guest,” so put together your best “sexy/alien/mutant” outfit and head to 1315 W. North to check out the, um, space jams.
Local jazzed-out pop four-piece Oshwa are following up the Gossip Wolf-approved LP Chamomile Crush with a digital-only single of album track “Tigers” that features a live-in-the-studio version, a remix by band pal Conor Mackey, and artwork from . . . you, maybe? Last week the band announced an artwork contest, and the winner gets a fancy colored-vinyl edition of Chamomile Crush and good vibes from the band. Entry deadline is Mon 10/14, and “Tigers” should be available as a free download shortly thereafter; Oshwa’s Tumblr has the deets.
