Lots of excitement at last weekend’s Pitchfork Fest, but despite what you may have heard, this Wolf wasn’t the one having sex in a porta-potty during James Blake‘s set. The big news: Dismemberment Plan guitarist Jason Caddell tells Gossip Wolf that the reunited band will get together in a month to jam and see if they have new material in them. In other exciting sightings, TV on the Radio‘s Kyp Malone dropped by Gang Gang Dance‘s Empty Bottle show Friday night to take in the opening DJ set by Total Freedom, who’s also his little brother. Saturday night this Wolf spotted Vince Vaughn on the VIP platform during Fleet Foxes‘ set. Jim DeRogatis could be seen scowling for most of the festival; perhaps he was bummed that the Odd Future melee he predicted turned out to be exactly one heckler. On day three White Mystery commandeered the backstage ice cream truck, handing out frozen treats to VIPs. Other fest spottings: ultimate cool teen and fashion blogger Tavi Gevinson checking out Thurston Moore‘s set, Numero Group’s Ken Shipley yelling about the 6.8 rating Pitchfork gave the Syl Johnson box, and Smith Westerns singer Cullen Omori looking around to see if anyone noticed him.
The folks at Experimental Sound Studio—the Reader‘s 2011 choice for “Best Experimental-Music Resource“—are reviving their sweet-sounding artist residency program after a one-year hiatus. If your application is accepted (visit experimentalsoundstudio.org), you get 40 hours of studio time for your next project; deadline is August 12. Next week ESS premieres Summersonic, a concert series featuring bands in ESS’s garden and solo performances in studio A. Joan of Arc and Azita kick things off July 30, no-wave noiseniks Ono and former Wilco guy LeRoy Bach play August 13, and outre electro-reggae punks the Eternals and singer-songwriter Angel Olsen wrap things up August 27.
