Gossip Wolf would support any deep-cut David Bowie cover band called Sons of the Silent Age—after the track from Heroes—but toss in some stars of 90s industrial and alt-rock and a benefit for pediatric cancer research, and we’re certifiably Aladdin Sane! Sons of the Silent Age includes frequent collaborators Chris Connelly (Ministry, Revolting Cocks) and Matt Walker (Filter, Smashing Pumpkins) with a band of pals, among them Garbage singer (and former T-1001 in Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) Shirley Manson. They’ll debut Fri 1/11 at a Pablove Foundation benefit at Metro with the Waco Brothers as T. Rex and Death on the Autobahn (featuring Kill Hannah bassist Greg Corner) as Kraftwerk. Diamond dogs who can’t make the show can donate online.
A decade ago black-metal warhorse Blake Judd released one demo with a side project called Hate Meditation before killing the band due to other commitments. But during Nachtmystium‘s April tour of Europe with German band Dark Fortress, he and DF live keyboardist Job Bos decided to resurrect Hate Meditation—its lineup now includes Jef Whitehead (Leviathan, Twilight) on bass and new Chicagoan Sam Shroyer (ex-Vitandus) on drums. The four-piece began recording in October, and in mid-2013 Norwegian label Indie Recordings will release an album of what Judd calls “eerie, aggressive, and dark black metal.”
We know a couple things about Corrections House, a new supergroup with Scott Kelly (Neurosis), Mike IX Wiliams (Eyehategod), and Chicago metal veterans Bruce Lamont (Yakuza, Bloodiest) and Sanford Parker (Minsk, Nachtmystium). They’re touring the east coast and south starting later this month, and a grim, minute-long teaser video hit the Internet last week. But other than that, this Wolf is in the dark—the normally forthcoming Lamont wouldn’t tell us when the band would play in Chicago or release a record. Guess we’ll find out with everyone else!
