Gossip Wolf couldn’t have been happier to hear that Dischord punk duo the Evens (aka Amy Farina and Ian MacKaye) will play Logan Hardware on Mon 7/1. This wolf hasn’t seen too many shows at the record shop, but MacKaye has a perfectly reasonably explanation for why the Evens decided to play there. His relationship with the building that houses Logan Hardware began in the early 90s, when it was the U.S. distribution headquarters for UK label Southern, a Dischord partner since 1984. When MacKaye was scoping out spaces to play in Chicago, Logan Hardware owner Jim Zespy floated the possibility of setting up something in his store. “It seemed like an excellent and appropriate idea,” MacKaye says. “The Southern warehouse on Fullerton was a base of operations for Dischord and Fugazi pretty much until Southern’s founder, John Loder, died in 2005 and the company wound down.” The show starts at 8 PM (doors at 7), and a donation is requested for admission—we also suggest listening to the Evens’ 2012 LP, The Odds, whether you can make it or not!

Since vocalist Nick Hernandez split with Chicago black-metal band Kommandant in 2011, we’ve missed his serious-as-a-heart-attack drill-sergeant bark and dominating stage presence. Now Hernandez is fronting Stone Magnum, a doom outfit from Michigan City, Indiana—and based on three free 2012 demos on their Bandcamp page, he fits right in with their brutal Candlemass-meets-Trouble churn. On Fri 6/28 they release their sophomore full-length, From Time . . . to Eternity (Rest in Peace), and celebrate by playing at Nite Cap with Cardiac Arrest and Radiation Sickness.

Gossip Wolf exclusive! Beloved Boston alt-rock band Come plays a free in-store at Saki before headlining the Empty Bottle on Fri 7/12. Come goes on at 4 PM; Adam Reach from Carrot Top and Touch and Go spins at 3 PM.
