Flame-haired siblings Alex and Francis White of busy Chicago garage-rock duo White Mystery tell Gossip Wolf they’ve just wrapped up a European tour and will self-release a smokin’ new album, Telepathic, on Sat 4/20. More immediately, on Valentine’s Day at Schubas they headline a benefit for the Christopher Saathoff Foundation with Absolutely Not, Twin Peaks (see Soundboard), and Post Honeymoon. Saathoff played in Chin Up Chin Up and in a duo with Alex White (as Chris Playboy); he was killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking home from the Empty Bottle in 2004, and the foundation his family established in his name supports youth arts programs and other children’s charities.

Over the past couple years locals My Gold Mask have played a runway show for big-time fashion designer Phillip Lim and placed three of their songs in sexy-time TV drama Gossip Girl, but for much of 2012 the duo was holed up working on a new album with engineer Balthazar de Ley at Strobe Recording in Humboldt Park. My Gold Mask will self-release Leave Me Midnight on Tue 2/19, and three tracks of its echo-chamber garage pop are already on Bandcamp—the pumping, anthemic “Further It Gets” seems especially like a soundtrack waiting for a scene. The band plays a release party at Schubas on Sat 3/9; the vinyl version hits stores on Tue 3/12 via Chicago indie Highwheel Records.

Earlier this winter local psych outfit Nude Sunrise had most of their gear stolen from the Humboldt Park DIY space where one of them lives. This has made it impossible for the band to continue being a band, so they’re hoping to raise $2,000 through IndieGoGo to replace the missing equipment—two guitars, a MicroKorg, and an assortment of pedals and stands. The campaign ends at 11:59 PM on Thu 2/14, and there are specifics about the band’s former gear at
