I’ve got a lot of those dancing-on-the-bar stories–who doesn’t?–but that’s probably why my evening here was so memorable. My friend Sarah and I wanted to go out but didn’t want to go to the typical smoky bar. Sarah had heard of this place and we decided to give it a try. They have shelves and shelves full of board games–everything from Candyland and Chutes and Ladders to Trivial Pursuit and Scrabble. I remembered Parcheesi from when I was little, and I didn’t really want a game where you had to answer any questions or do much thinking, so that was our game of choice. We had some girl talk, played for a little bit, ordered a pizza from the take-out menus, and had a couple of drinks. We ended up just spending the night by ourselves; we didn’t meet anyone else and didn’t need to. It was like a quiet evening at home, but that’s what made it stand out. It made me realize that going out doesn’t have to be so crazy. I feel like Dorothy–“What have you learned about nightlife?” Well, I’ve learned that it’s the company you keep that makes your night memorable.
