Stars of Dance, electronica, and hip-hop comE together for the second North Coast Music Festival this Labor Day weekend (Fri-Sun 9/2-9/4) in Union Park at Lake and Ashland. The lineup, spread across four stages, reads a bit like Lollapalooza lite, except with more DJs and hip-hop. Friday’s schedule includes Lotus, “Black and Yellow” rapper Wiz Khalifa, SBTRKT, Wolfgang Gartner, local house duo Midnight Conspiracy, and superproducer David Guetta, who’s nearly impossible to avoid if you listen to pop radio even a little. Among Saturday’s big names are Fatboy Slim, Carl Cox, dubstep hero Rusko, Diplo and Switch collabo Major Lazer, and socially conscious rapper Common. Sunday features ATB, Latyrx, DJ duo Thievery Corporation, electronic producer Bassnectar, Italian house DJ Benny Benassi, and many more. But no need to fret, guitar fans! The fest has also booked a few acts trafficking in rock or soul, including Of Montreal, Gogol Bordello, the Budos Band, and STS9. Nonmusical amenities include an expanded shaded area created by Funktion Forms, live graffiti art at the Reader‘s Living Gallery, and (naturally) roaming stilt walkers and other “curious characters.” Music starts at 3:30 PM on Friday, noon on Saturday, and 1:15 PM on Sunday; things wrap up at 10 PM every night. Tickets are $50 for Friday and $60 for Saturday or Sunday; three-day passes are sold out. Visit do312.com/ncmfafterparties for a full schedule of aftershows and parties.
