Back in 2010, when Gossip Wolf first covered Shame That Tune—which calls itself “America’s Favorite Comedy Musical Game Show”—we never figured it’d reach episode 50! But this oddball onstage entertainment, hosted by Reader contributor Brian Costello and pianist Abraham Levitan, will celebrate that milestone at the Hideout on Fri 11/14. And the years haven’t dimmed the Shame That Tune gang’s ambition. Levitan tells us, “Parody piano numbers about pants shitting are clearly poised to dominate the Top 40 over the next decade.” And Costello feels like “Mike Wallace, Terry Gross, and Studs Terkel are looking down on me from heaven when I’m interviewing contestants about enlightening topics like childhood diarrhea, premature ejaculation, and making out with the popular entertainer Kesha.” Far be it from us to quibble, but we’re pretty sure Terry Gross is alive and kicking—and we’re tickled pink that Shame That Tune is too. Congrats, y’all!

A couple years ago, this wolf got hooked on singer-songwriter and Chicago transplant Quinn Tsan after seeing her play at weekly variety show Salonathon; needless to say, we’re pretty excited to hear she’s dropping her debut EP, Good Winter. Its gorgeously vivid, Americana-tinged folk hits the spot, especially the heart-wrenching “Bedrooms III.” Tsan headlines a release show for the EP on Fri 11/14 at Constellation; Passerines and Kelsey Wild open.

Don’t expect Chicago four-piece Bike Cops to help with traffic issues or noisy neighbors—the only law they’re laying down comes in the form of jangly pop punk with a sweet surf-rock edge! After an east-coast tour last month, the band released Close Cover Strike Gently, a five-song cassette EP on Indianapolis label Jurassic Pop. This wolf can’t get enough of the roomy, psyched-out grooves on “Salmon Sundae,” but the whole record is pretty darn great. They play Cole’s on Sat 11/29 with Volcano Weather.
