You might remember Gossip Wolf shouting out all-ages nonprofit arts center Pure Joy, which is looking for a space to call home. Turns out one of its board members, Jes Skolnik, plays guitar and sings for Chicago punks Split Feet, who release their full-length debut, Shame Parade, on Fri 2/6. This wolf would happily march with a big placard calling this band the bee’s knees—their claustrophobic, spooky sound recalls classic early-80s death rock and postpunk! The gloomy “You’re a Ghost” (which the band’s label, D.C.-based Accidental Guest, has posted online) is a serious earworm. On Friday, Split Feet play at Quenchers to celebrate the digital release of Shame Parade; cassettes should be out soon, and fans can preorder a tape (with a download card) bundled with a T-shirt, a pin, and a poster.

Gossip Wolf never got around to seeing Joseph Gordon-Levitt in Premium Rush, despite generally supporting all things related to bike couriers. For instance, on Thu 2/5 the Empty Bottle hosts a fund-raising concert organized by worker-owned bike-messenger company Cut Cats Courier; it benefits the Center for Workplace Democracy, which promotes and assists worker-owned businesses. The bill features postpunk mopes Torture Love and brutish rockers Basic Cable (whose lineup includes Reader music-listings guru Luca Cimarusti). Cover is $5 and the show starts at 9 PM.

Chicago native Marquis Cooper has been DJing and producing as Svengalisghost for a few years, and last week he dropped his first recordings since 2013. Cooper, now a Parisian, released the EP Russian Torrent Versions 15 through out-there electronic label Russian Torrent. Most of the tracks come from live sets: “The more techno ones are definitely a response to living in Europe and having Voski as a roommate,” Cooper says. For the more recent acid-related tracks, he explains, “We’re influenced by the new synths I added to the rig.”
