The Chicago International Movies & Music Festival, better known as CIMMfest, is back for its fourth year, bringing more than 40 film programs to venues in Wicker Park and Logan Square from Thu 4/12 to Sun 4/15. Of course, there’s live music too, mostly in the evenings. On Thu 4/12 the Wicker Park Art Center hosts a free Nora O’Connor show at 9 PM and a Mucca Pazza set upstairs at 10 PM. On Fri 4/13 at Double Door, young local group Kids These Days play a 9 PM concert with openers Wonder Mike and Master Gee of the Sugarhill Gang, who will perform their classic “Rapper’s Delight.” Later that night DJ and VJ Abstract Black brings his interactive audiovisual stage show to Rodan, and Chrissy Murderbot headlines the DJ Club Network night across the street at Debonair. On Sat 4/14 WPAC presents a free all-day acoustic show, which starts at 2:30 PM and runs past 10; performers include Kevin Brennan, Zachary Ross, and a surprise guest headliner. On Sun 4/15, Bobby Bare Jr. and the Lawrence Peters Outfit play at the Hideout at 7 PM, after a screening of Don’t Follow Me (I’m Lost), a documentary about Bare. A few events combine live music and movies even more intimately: on Fri 4/13 at 9:30 PM, for instance, Adult. and Hubble (the dream-shred solo project of the Men’s Ben Greenberg) play real-time scores to movies at WPAC. Prices and age restrictions vary from show to show. For more on CIMMfest, see Ben Sachs’s review of the festival’s opening-night film, Queens of Country, screening Thu 4/12 at 7 PM at WPAC (before O’Connor’s set).
