Last year Tomorrow Never Knows expanded from Schubas alone to include its sister venue, Lincoln Hall, and this year it’s grown again to include a pair of shows at Metro. TNK began Wed 1/12 and runs through Sun 1/16, presenting a stellar lineup of established and up-and-coming indie-rock and pop as well as a dash of hip-hop. Lincoln Hall hosts shows all five nights, with notable acts like the Besnard Lakes, Frankie Rose & the Outs, Lia Ices, Little Dragon, Mister Heavenly, Screaming Females, Jaill, and Handsome Furs. The relatively intimate Schubas space hosts music every night of the festival too, including Marketa Irglova, Twin Shadow, Fol Chen, the Concretes, and S. Carey. The two Metro concerts are Gary-bred rapper Freddie Gibbs with Shad and Rita J on Friday and Brooklyn duo Tanlines with Reptar and Young Empires on Saturday. Downstairs from Metro, Smart Bar throws afterparties Fri 1/14 and Sun 1/16; flash a TNK wristband or ticket stub from Schubas, Lincoln Hall, or Metro for discounted admission. Bottin, Jacques Renault, and Only Children spin on Friday ($13, $10 before midnight, $5 for festgoers), and the Glamour and Kid Color spin Sunday ($2, free for festgoers); both shows start at 10 PM. At 3 PM on Saturday and Sunday, Schubas presents all-ages shows with the Boogers and Human-Tim + Robot-Tim, respectively. Evening shows are 18+ and $15, regardless of venue, and the all-ages shows are $8. Five-day passes cost $100 and include free trolley rides among the three venues.
