To the editors:

In a fiery little speech directed against Rich Daley, Eddie Vrdolyak recently referred to an artwork involving an American flag placed on the Art Institute’s floor as a “crime” and a “sin.” I think such language would better describe the murder of Selena Johnson by her husband, Ed, and the Chicago Police Department’s willful ignorance of Ed’s repeated batterings of Selena before he killed her [“Officers in Trouble,” March 10]. If just one of our mayoral candidates would spend a little more time addressing issues like woman abuse, and a little less time advocating artistic censorship, we might have someone worth voting for in April.
