Just a quick comment on Nora Schneider’s story about being robbed and shot in the March 11 issue [“Shot in Cold Blood”]. While she has my sympathy and prayers for the anguish caused by the shooting, she has her story wrong. She states that the criminal had a semiautomatic pistol, from which “several bullets flew even though he may have squeezed the trigger only once.” If that was the case, the weapon would be fully automatic, or what is commonly called a machine gun. Semiautomatic by definition and reality means that one and only one bullet is fired each time the trigger is pulled. Fully automatic weapons are seldom actually used in street crimes. Not a criticism, only an observation. Thanks for an interesting article.
