To the editors:

Regarding Ed Zotti’s “Local Color: The Irish Problem” [March 17], I too fell under the influence of a woman from St. Mary’s–a card-carrying member of the Notre Dame women’s auxiliary–and for your sake I urge a complete renunciation of Zotti’s heresy.

The furor over Salman Rushdie’s Satanic Verses is as nothing compared to Notre Dame’s response to impiety and irreverence.

Recall, for example, as Jimmy Johnson and the Miami Hurricanes learned last fall in South Bend, under the watchful eye of Touchdown Jesus, the Domers’ terrible and direct access to divine intervention and their ability on call to “shake down the thunder from the sky.”

I assume Zotti is now safely in hiding in a secure place.
