To the editors:

I am writing to comment on the cartoons and other material in the Reader’s Section Four.

Excellent most of the time:

Dan Savage’s Savage Love

Heather McAdams’s cartoons

Sometimes good:

Jennifer Berman’s cartoons

Derf’s “The City”

“Ask Aunt Violet”

Stale and long past their prime:

Lynda Barry’s “Ernie Pook”

Matt Groening’s “Life in Hell”

News of the Weird

Never were funny:

Norman Dog

P.S. Mueller

Just awful:

Max Cannon’s “Red Meat”

Kaz’s “Underworld”

So, where are “Phoebe and the Pigeon People” when we need them? Finally, Brad Gutting (Letters, August 11) is right. Tom Tomorrow’s “This Modern World” would be a good addition to the Reader. “Maxine” and Alison Bechdel’s “Dykes to Watch Out For” are good strips too.
