I must quibble with a couple of points in your column [Hot Type, May 2]. You say that “the editors told Hornung it was a great idea.” I never thought or said the ad was a “great idea.” My initial reaction was that I didn’t have a problem with it, which isn’t the same thing.

Second, I never encouraged people to sign the ad. When I first told the staff about the ad, I told them they should decide for themselves whether to sign it and made no recommendation one way or the other.
