We’re kicking off Giving Tuesday early this year! Your donation today will be matched up to $10K, doubling your impact! If you donate $50 today, the Reader will receive $100.

The Reader is now a community-funded nonprofit newsroom. Can we count on your support to help keep us publishing?

Am I alone in wondering why the Reader prints the Savage Love column week after week, with its dysfunctional cast of characters presided over by a dysfunctional spinmeister? This column must carry some kind of appeal, though it’s a shame that the appeal is based on its raunchy language and utter grossness.

I can’t help noticing that, while the suburban edition of the Reader contains columns like The Straight Dope and News of the Weird, it does not include Savage Love. Is this to suggest that suburbanites have better taste and higher moral standards than we poor city folks do?

The editor replies:

As the Reader’s Guide to Arts and Entertainment grows, so will the space for columns, and eventually we’ll be able to respond to the suburbanites clamoring for Savage Love.
