Dear City File [October 24]:

There are 35 “educational” and “other/independent” radio stations, and only 31 owned by media giants in the Chicago area, ergo: what media monopoly? Well, sure. Adlai Stevenson High School has a radio station, and so does the Tribune Company. And I’m sure Adlai Stevenson H.S. has a newspaper too, which matches the Tribune Company in that area also, right?

Media giants own at least 17 of the top 20 radio outlets in Chicago. Dismiss the importance of that, if you’d like, but don’t hide the reality of it with phony numbers.
