To the editors:

I have one minor quibble on Alan Boomer’s first Sports Section column (March 1) regarding the flag graphics during the ABC golf telecast.

This may be a new wrinkle for ABC on all their tournaments–pathetic patriotism if so. Future broadcasts will clear this up.

However, the Chrysler Cup is an international event, teaming up U.S. golfers against an array of international opponents. In this context the flag icons are acceptable–call it queasy patriotism on the level of the Olympics.
