Dear Reader,

I’m feeling a little sickened by your cover story of the fundamentalist Andrew Marin in your story “His God Doesn’t Hate Fags” [August 18]. While Mr. Marin concedes that “in his heart” he does not approve of homosexuality, is this not passing judgment? Even worse is his ex-gay rhetoric, “when it comes to changing sexual orientation . . . it’s not going to happen right away.” Good Lord,it’s frightening to consider what’s going on in his head.

While his approach seems a garden-variety brand of right-wing Christian bigotry disguised as tolerance by “conquering the enemy with Christian love,” I’m not buying it. In the meantime, I have just four words for Mr. Marin’s bogus ministry and this ongoing spiritual abuse from the Christian right: faith crime laws now.
