I used to live in Evanston, so I feel I have a connection with your city, even though I’ve lived in Vancouver for many years.

I would like to add my voice to those who are opposing the repeal of the ban on foie gras in Chicago [“When Activists Attack,” June 22]. While it is true that the war in Iraq and other human issues deserve attention, I think the way we treat animals is directly connected to the way we treat each other. If we treat animals with brutality it is but a step to brutalizing humans. This connection has yet to be made by the vast majority of humans, but your city’s animal rights activists are aware of it and are doing a splendid job.
