This weekend Whole Foods is offering “more samples than you can shake a stick at” as part of its two-day FlavorFest in Jonquil Park, near DePaul. More than 50 vendors–among them Horizon Organic, Applegate Farms, Seventh Generation, and Kitchen Aid–will ply guests with snacks and send them home with product; the first 2,500 through the gate even get free tote bags to carry their loot. In addition there will be cooking demonstrations by Rick Bayless and Chicago Diner’s Jo Kaucher, a workshop on “New Uses for Old Things” sponsored by Real Simple, and live music from Cracker, the Paul Green School of Rock, Naked Eyes, and A Flock of Seagulls. FlavorFest runs 11 AM to 9 PM on Saturday and 11 AM to 8 PM on Sunday; there’s a $5 suggested donation. –Megan Roberts
