Hi Ben,

I have enjoyed your writing for years. In a follow-up to “Stone Rocks the Boat” [Neighborhood News, May 21], I received a notice from RCN this week announcing their new channel lineups in my area (effective June 14, 2004). Not only are all the CAN TV channels (19, 21, 27, 36, 42) being removed from my system (Chicago, analog), but so are the city’s two MUTV channels (23, 49). Where will I get my Bob Wallace fix?

They are being replaced by various school-district and other community-type channels from the likes of the Park District, library, and Oakton CC.

Interestingly, gone too are C-SPAN, C-SPAN2, Bloomberg, Sundance, and IFC, though there is some fine print about getting Digital Vision (34 extra channels, additional $9.95). It was just the push I needed to call EchoStar.
