Mr. Margasak,

“Taste of Lincoln Avenue has booked 10,000 Maniacs, but most of the 30-plus other acts it’s scheduled are the contemporary equivalent of those 80s bar bands, unoriginal if popular groups like Hello Dave…” is a quote from one of your recent articles [Post No Bills, June 20].

I attended college at a large university and had the privilege of working for four years at the biggest live-band bar on campus. This was a venue for both Hello Dave and 10,000 Maniacs. I can tell you that Hello Dave puts on a much better show than 10,000 Maniacs (who you seem to believe are the great redeemer of Taste of Lincoln Avenue). Great music, great energy, and great fun is how I would describe a Hello Dave show. To describe them as unoriginal is so…UNORIGINAL. At least 95 percent of the Hello Dave shows I’ve been to have been their own material. If you don’t like their music, say so, but don’t try to call them a cover band. Really, when was the last Hello Dave show you went to?
