Dear Mr. Margasak,

In the most recent installment of your usually stellar column, Post No Bills [January 16], you referred to the following artists: Tom Petty, R.E.M., Train, John Mayer, and David Gray as “mildly rocking.” I must let you know that I take extreme exception to that description.

Mildly rocking? Are you serious? Tom Petty, R.E.M., Train, John Mayer, and David Gray are to rock and roll as Sweet ‘N Low is to cayenne pepper. To pay these individuals such a compliment is a disingenuous act toward your readers. Shame on you.

Live on XRT 6 would most accurately be described thusly: It was a lame-strokin’-chicken-chokin’ pile of self-indulgent crapola, garbed in an act of charity, just barely one cut above the Jessica Simpson, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake trinity of aural evil presently perpetrated upon a public whose taste is at best challenged on its most self-aware days. (You may use this description in any corrections you may be planning to print.) And furthermore, while we’re on the subject, I think it’s about time you outed WXRT as the culturally paunchy status quo pushers of classic schlock they in fact ARE. That is all. Thank you for your consideration.
