In your article “Devil Worship” of 6 October [Hot Type] you state “Reverend Eugene Lauer of the Catholic Theological Union allowed that American Catholics are split down the middle as to whether the devil exists.”

Please note well that the Catechism of the Catholic Church makes clear that the devil most certainly exists and that this is an integral part of the Catholic creed. It is thus axiomatic that if someone doesn’t believe in the devil, then they are not Catholic.

Saying that half of all Catholics don’t believe in the devil is as nonsensical as saying half of all vegans eat meat.
