To the editor,

What would possess you to take advantage of the tragic death of someone who was a dear and gentle person and use it to attack the religion he loved? Neither Greg Bashaw nor the Church of Scientology deserves the lies that were contained in that article [“Death of a Scientologist,” August 16].

How much research did this writer do beyond rehashing old, yellowed articles that were full of lies and inaccuracies to begin with? If she had looked further than her nose she might have noticed the thousands who have rescued themselves from the dwindling spiral of drug addiction using the rehabilitation methods developed by Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard. She might have come across the daily successes that Scientologists have as a result of applying Scientology principles to their lives to make them better.

On second thought, it is obvious that truth was not on Tori Marlan’s agenda.
