To the editors:

I haven’t seen the movie Only the Lonely reviewed [Reader’s Guide to the Silver Screen] by a critic who finds the production “too gutless” to show the lovers in bed.

It could be, of course, that somewhere in the morass of nonmarital screwing that oozes through contemporary film there might actually be a director (in this case Chris Columbus) with a mind of his own. And a sense of decency to match it.

Just a supposition, of course . . .
