To the editors:

I hadn’t got very far into “[In the Realm of the] Censors” (July 3) before concluding its author, Robert McClory, had to be addicted to making mountains out of molehills.

In one out of how many school districts in the United States they want to keep that cute dish drying poem out of the hands of children! How thin-skinned can a person get over a community’s right to discourage free speech? Nobody is going to stop Mr. McClory if he chooses to visit that town and give away copies of Silverstein’s poem or sell the volume on street corners with a bookmark at the offending poem.

Count those Beloit kids as lucky. In the end the conclusion reached will be “Our parents really care!”
