June 13, 10 AM, 1900 block of North LaCrosse. Attempted burglary. Man climbed in front window of house. Resident woke up, noticed man, and asked what he was doing. Offender said, “Excuse me,” hid his face, and fled.

June 17, 6:30 PM, 5400 block of South Cornell. Burglary. Man returned home to find TV missing, along with $1,000 hidden inside it. After police found no evidence of forced entry, man said he has a habit of leaving his door unlocked when he goes out.

June 21, 7:20 PM, 7500 block of North Western. Confidence game. Two men approached victim in Jewel parking lot and said they’d found an envelope containing $8,000 in unsigned traveler’s checks. Perpetrators offered victim part of the find if he’d put up good faith money and keep quiet for a month. Victim, who apparently never saw The Sting, drove to bank and withdrew $300. Perpetrators told him that one of them worked at the Gap and a woman there wearing a flowered dress would have a receipt for him to sign. As victim walked toward the Gap, perpetrators fled with his money and wedding ring.

June 24, 4 PM, 1800 block of West Fullerton. Robbery. Man walked into bank and handed teller a note that said, “I have a gun, give me the money.” Before teller could reply, offender started making small talk about transferring money from another bank. Then he abruptly ran outside and hopped in a getaway car. An hour later car was found parked a few blocks away, and offender was found walking down Clybourn Avenue. He was taken back to the bank, identified, and turned over to the FBI.
