I liked writer Rick Reger’s preview on the Bodeco show at Lounge Ax [Section 3, July 22]. It seems, though, that he thinks most rockabilly shows these days are fakes.

I don’t agree. Most people playing this music around here are way past college age, have been into the music for years, and wear their cat clothes seven days a week. They are what they are because rockabilly is in their bones and blood. They sure as hell don’t play it for the money or women.

Chicago has some of the hottest rockabilly bands in the country, and plenty of the finest players from elsewhere come to this area. But you wouldn’t know it by reading the Reader.

It’s good that Reger at least has heard of rockabilly, and maybe even knows what it is.
