To the editors:

I was pleased to read the criticism of Slug Signorino which appeared in the August 10 issue [Letters]. While the reader’s comments were a trifle overwrought, they surely were directed at a deserving target.

Disappointing, by comparison, was your decision to print Signorino’s response. This violates what is, to me, one of the better traditions of print journalism, that of letting the reader have the last word. We do not need to see a rebuttal, especially when it displays the same unappealing mix of smugness and a puerile sense of humor that Signorino brings to his/her cartoons.
