To the editor:
I want to thank Ben Joravsky for his wonderful article (Neighborhood News, November 8) about my late husband Jon and the Saturday ball games at Crown Park in Evanston. The one missing piece to the story is the beautiful way the players behaved off the field in the weeks and months preceding Jon’s death. They called, they visited, they brought him lunches long after his lunch-eating days were over. For all those testosterone-filled (sort of) Saturdays, in the end these guys were all about sweetness.
