While playwright and actor Ann Noble Massey dances her way through Alan Knee’s Syncopation on the North Shore, And Neither Have I Wings to Fly, her play about a family in Ireland, is having a run at Chicago’s Victory Gardens Theater. And Neither was Massey’s first attempt at playwriting. With the help of her family, the Lake Forest native launched a theater company, Seanachai, to get it into production. It ran for eight months in Chicago in 1995, closing “only because we didn’t have any place to move it to.” Seanachai survived too, and is now performing another Irish play, A Night in November, in Victory Gardens’ studio. In Syncopation, a romance with dance, Massey plays a turn-of-the-century Italian-American sweatshop worker who answers an ad for a dancing partner and meets a Jewish-American meat packer and hoofer wannabe, played by Ross Lehman. It runs through October 22 at Apple Tree Theatre, where Lehman is coartistic director. Apple Tree is at 595 Elm Place in Highland Park. Performances are scheduled for Fridays at 8; Saturdays at 5 and 8:30; Sundays at 3 and 7; and Wednesdays at 7:30. Tickets are $28 to $32. Call 847-432-4335.
