Cinematographer Claude Renoir is not the brother of director Jean Renoir as Jonathan Rosenbaum stated in his Critic’s Choice listing of The Golden Coach [August 21]. Claude Renoir’s father, actor Pierre Renoir, and Jean Renoir are brothers–and sons of artist Pierre-Auguste Renoir. But Rosenbaum was certainly right in highlighting this film which marked Jean Renoir’s return to the poetic vision of his European films after a decade in Hollywood.
